@Karen @Veen @Stormy: You are commenting on a significant aspect of the global fall out --pardon the double entendre-- humans are selfish relative to their physical location & sense of personal safety. Not everyone is sensitive to the plight of our Japanese brothers & sisters. But they should be. They should be. Oh yes, they should be. There also seems to be a global state of attention deficit disorder (not helped by computer games). And verily: this nuclear crisis is developing slowly, slowly & many folks are being lulled to sleep.

@NHK Listener The stories on jumpers are all old, but are most likely relevant to what we're seeing now. Here's another one from 1984.
is.gd Low paid workers doing dangerous jobs in nuclear plants seem well-documented.

A blogger from the nearby mountains posted Wednesday, March 30, 2011 21:02 (last night)
Smoke from Fukushima Daini nuclear plant
Tokyo Electric Power Company says smoke was seen coming out of electrical equipment in the turbine building at the No.1 reactor of the Fukushima Daini nuclear plant.
The Daini plant is located about 10 kilometers south of the crippled Daiichi plant.
The company says an alarm was activated at around 5:50 PM on Wednesday to show an abnormality in the electrical equipment on the 1st floor of the turbine building.
Company workers confirmed smoke was being emitted from equipment which supplies power to a motor pump that collects outdoor water.
The company says the workers turned off the motor and that the smoke stopped at around 6:13 PM.
The company is investigating cause of the smoke, and suspects trouble with the electric equipment.
It says all 4 reactors at the plant are safely shut down with their temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. Then Thursday the 31st
Smoke again from the nuclear plant in Fukushima Daini, Fukushima Number two, the second plant (not to mix with the second reactor at Daiichi, the first plant) ...
Fukushima II Nuclear Power Plant (福島第二原子力発電所)
Fukushima Dai-ni, located in the town of Naraha and Tomioka in the Futaba District of Fukushima. It has four reactor units, 1 to 4.

When it starts affecting people's wallets, they'll tune in. @Veen: I started using - FB as a storage portal and let my friends know that I'm not completely bonkers. I'm glad that I did (even have a photo of the day). The way that I look at it is that I'm capturing history as it's happening. No one really comments but some folks have told me that they appreciate the updates.
